The newest HELICOPTER from Agusta, the A -119 KOALA, is a relatively big wide bodied helicopter powered by a single turbine that provides safety, high productivity and performance at a competitive price.
Agusta began the work of development of the KOALA in 1994, flying the first prototype in early 1995. A second prototype flew later that same year and the certification was obtained at the end of 1998. Deliveries began in1999.
One of the characteristics why Agusta has achieved so much success in the Koala sales has been its wide fuselage, which is 30% larger than the single engine HELICOPTERS available in the market today.
The access to the main cabin is by means of two big sliding doors in both sides of the fuselage. The luggage compartment, located in the back of the fuselage is wide and it is also accessible during the flight.
The KOALA is powered by a 747kW (1002shp) PT6B-37 Pratt & Whitney of Canada turbine. Another of its characteristics is the composite four blade main rotor, with a completely articulated and free of maintenance titanium hub, with elastomeric bearings and composite grips.
